Where the Waters Are Born
The participatory research project Donde Nacen Las Aguas created baseline information on waters of global importance located within a UNESCO site..
This first surface water characterization initiative responds to one of the main information gaps in the Glaciers National Park management plan: water in its liquid form.
-
We created the first environmental baseline on surface water in the Northern Zone of Los Glaciares National Park, sampling 80 sites within an area of 820km2.
-
Since the end of 2021, we trained 50 people in the sampling protocol of Donde Nacen Las Aguas.
-
We developed a participatory monitoring methodology for the waters of this World Heritage site, adapted to the local context and based on the principles of cooperation and transparency.

-
We built innovative cooperation networks for the territory with the aim of drastically renewing the local possibilities for the conservation of aquatic ecosystems
-
We disseminate this information publicly through the realization of thematic maps and the organization of scientific mediation events.
Project status: completed
Start date: December 2021
Closing date: December 2023

HAPEC

The HAPEC - Agroecological and Pedagogical Garden of El Chaltén - is a space for agroecological experimentation in the search for cultivation techniques adapted to southern Patagonia.

We develop the knowledge and practices necessary to start creating agroecological realities in El Chaltén.
-
We created the first local agro-ecological system, in which we identified available local resources, climatic constraints and opportunities to recycle organic matter.
-
We run workshops for the children of El Chaltén, with the aim of spreading agroecology through play.
Project status: completed
Start date: November 2021
Closing date: February 2025

Training cycle for the effective management of protected areas for the staff of the Northern Zone of Los Glaciares National Park.
In order to support the management of this World Heritage site, we developed a training cycle for project management and evaluation of the effectiveness of protected area management.

The training cycle included the identification of priority indicators for monitoring the site's conservation trends.
-
Introduction to the logical framework tool
-
Selection of methodologies for evaluating the effectiveness of protected area management.
-
Workshops to identify priorities for site conservation (tourism destination management, water management)
-
Introduction to Green List Management Indicators (IUCN)
